The production process of synthetic rubber can be broadly divided into three parts: the synthesis and refining of monomers, the polymerization process, and the post-treatment of rubber.
Refining methods
The basic raw material of synthetic rubber is monomer, and the common methods of refining are distillation, washing, drying and so on.
Polymerization process
Polymerization process is the monomer in the initiator and catalyst under the action of polymerization reaction to generate polymer process. Sometimes with a polymerization equipment, sometimes more than one used in series. Synthetic rubber polymerization process is mainly applied to emulsion polymerization and solution polymerization method. Emulsion polymerization is used in styrene butadiene rubber, isoprene rubber, butyl propylene rubber, butyl rubber and so on.
Post-treatment
Post-treatment is to make the polymerization reaction of the material (latex or glue), by removing the unreacted monomer, coagulation, dehydration, drying and packaging and other steps, the process of making finished rubber. The coagulation process of emulsion polymerization mainly adopts the addition of electrolyte or polymer coagulant, which destroys the emulsion and makes the rubber particles precipitate out. The coagulation process of solution polymerization is mainly based on hot water condensation. The rubber particles precipitated after coagulation contain a large amount of water and need to be dehydrated and dried.
